DEVELOPMENT: IN SEARCH OF HELPING HANDS

My heart ponders…
on the chaos that goes on in my nation.
My heart is bittered…
Over the attitude of leaders towards development.
My heart is weary…
At the complacency of the masses.

Greed and Selfishness rules the heart,
Blocking every chance of charity and solidarity.
Empathy is now an outcast among my people
So that everyone cares less about common good.

Leaders grab opportunity of power and uses
It to the maximum to enrich themselves while
Followers are desperate to ‘eat out of the National cake’.
Both care less of the consequences of their action.

The younger generation are not different from the older generation
And the female folks are as corrupt as the males.
There is little or no difference at all between the
Government and the corporate organisations who are growing
Rapidly in parallel proportion to the community within which they operate.

Great ideas are turned down,
Beautiful dreams are trampled upon,
Wonderful visions are caged,
And gracious talents are handicapped.

Virtually every community cries out for development,
Which is not too tall a height to attain nor
Too far a journey to arrive at desirable destination.
The problem is non-availability of helping hands
From all and sundry.

Development is not magical,
Neither is it a natural phenomenon that will just happen.
Development is an occurrence
Which is brought about by deliberate actions.

Development is in search of helping hands,
Will you make yours available?

PROUDLY NIGERIAN

I am proud to be a Nigerian;
An identity of inheritance and choice.
I am proud to belong to the happiest people on earth,
Though things seem not right,
I see a bright light with my right eye.
I love this land,
Flowing with milk and honey,
Covered with green vegetation
Inhabited by great people with a bright future.
I’ll serve my father land
With love, strength and faith,
I won’t forget the labour of her heroes past.
I’ll gladly stand up for the glory of the nation.
It is a fact that we are poor,
But the truth is: we’re rich
It is a fact that we’re behind in term of development
But the truth is that we should be in front.
It is a fact that there are many bad people in the nation
But the truth is: there are still good people
Who will do well for the good of the country.
Let’s raise our flag high
Because it stands for something:
Life is represented in Green;
Peace in White and ‘Plenty’ in green again.
Green White Green therefore is
Plenty Peaceful Life…
…that is the real Nigeria,
Let’s make it Happen!
